"facing unafraid the plans that we made"

Christmas isn't even officially over yet and I'm starting to get post holidays blues! I have lots of Christmasy things to blog about inbetween revising for my January exams (cry) including some baking and a "what I got" post. (I always love reading these as it gives me lots of good ideas of what to get other people)

For now though I'm reminiscing over Christmas, and planning for the new year, including some street style photography adventures. Although I really should be cracking out the physics and maths books (why oh why did I take such silly and difficult subjects?)

I hope you all had a lovely Christmas!

Snowballs and glitter

I was so excited when I was asked to help create the Christmas window display for a local shop. The shop sells both flowers (not the tacky type, but lust-worthy roses and berry's and other autumnal and Christmasy flowers)  and also a wide selection of interior accessories, both vintage and new. The seasonal window displays are always amazing and I was really looking forward to getting my hands on some of their cute decs. Here are just a few shots, although I under estimated the difficulty of getting good pictures through a shop window!

After being invited to do the window display I was then invited back the next week for their Christmas party with snowballs and home-made cookies.

LoveLeighRoad Day

I work in a small café that is located on a sort of "mini high street". All of the shops around us are independent, and it's a really lovely community with vintage clothes shops, antique shops, art gallery and the usual green grocers, florist etc.

Over the last few years the street has had less and less customers coming to pay us all a visit. We decided that we should re-brand the street into one big shopping community.  Our launch of this was on the 1st of December where we had a big promotional day. There where loads of activities, games, tastings and discounts, and later on a live jazz performance.

It has been such a fun experience, especially working closely with the branding and marketing company that are helping us. We have had such a great response from it, and I thought I’d share a few pictures from the day with you.

Tim Walker Exhibition at Somerset House

Like many other bloggers, this autumn I went to Somerset House for the Tim Walker exhibition.

I can't get enough of Walker's style, and I love looking at his pictures, and wishing I was that creative! For those of you that don't know him, he is a fashion photographer but with flair! He has shot the Mulberry advertisement campaign, which is just a snapshot of his style.

However actually going to the exhibition was even more amazing than looking at the pictures on glossy magazines. The interior of the exhibition reflected his style, but also didn't take the focus away from the pictures themselves and the amazing props. (Sadly I couldn't take any pictures of them, but the swan head rowing boat was my favourite!) And there was also a really interesting film of some of the shoots he has done.

After I had a wonder around I walked to Covent Garden before catching the train home (mainly because I was craving one of the cupcakes from the cute cupcake shop, and also because  I can easily navigate my way home from there, but get a bit lost from anywhere else!)

The exhibition is on until January so I recommend trying to go and see it, and it's free, so there's no excuse! I'm all ready planning my next trip to London, and this time it will be part of my "Getting Christmassy" plan, so watch this space for all things festive.

On my playlist...

The band Rubber kiss goodbye include Tara Ferry, photographer and Burberry model, as their drummer, who provides the beat to their seminal retro and Brit pop songs. There's something quite "90's" about them, but they're still a lot cooler than the Vengaboys (which i was embarrassingly obsessed with when I was little) Rubber kiss goodbye are definitely becoming a regular on my playlist!

C'est Paris!

Like most people I dream of whimsical adventures in Paris, dinning in bistros and taking boat trips down the river, and although it was only for a day, I finally got to go this summer. The closest I’ve got to the city of Paris before now was Disney, and although I love Disney so much I would be quite happy to live there, I was still eager to visit the city outside of the park. It was everything I expected it to be and more. Every street we walked down looked so typically Parisian it could have come straight from a travel blog! My trip to the top of the Eiffel tower was definitely a highlight, but I also loved the cute bridge covered in padlocks. And although there wasn’t much time for shopping I did manage to buy myself a new (and much needed) leather jacket for autumn, and a cute pair of vintage inspired sandals.

Fair grounds and bubble tea… It’s all going on at Embankment!

My lovely cousin from the Wiltshire countryside came down for a visit recently and we decided to take a trip to Embankment in London to catch a glimpse of the London Eye and Big Ben. Walking along the river side we came across The Mastercard London Wonderground. Although we didn’t pay £7(!) to go on the ride, we did enjoy a wonder through the lantern walkway and a sit down in the Magners Mushrooms.
We then took a walk down to see what was happening at the Southbank centre. There were a couple of art installations outside and we wondered round to find a food market. The smells were amazing, especially the cheese and raisin pancakes that we had a (few) samples of! I didn’t try the bubble tea, but definitely will next time!
Then out of nowhere, in true British style it POURED down. We tried to find some cover and came 5across a very strange secret installation. Icicles made from milk bottles- and lots of them! Once the rain had stopped we ventured round to the roof top garden and café.
On the way back we couldn’t resist a quick trip to Covent Garden, and although we didn’t make it to the main square as our feet hurt so much we had to give up, I did however find a vintage shop I hadn’t yet visited called Pop Boutique. They sell amazing pieces at really reasonable prices! I couldn’t resist snapping up a pair of classic docs for only £35! I would definitely recommend a trip here if you’re in the area!
Where are some of your favourite quirky or secret places in London?
